SPIRITUAL COACHING IS AN IMPORTANT TOOL FOR ADDRESSING THE ROOT CAUSES IN HEALING

As a doctor of natural medicine, I have supported a lot of overwhelmed women experiencing the effects of stress. I was that overwhelmed mom, and ascending through the process of healing myself physically, emotionally, and spiritually has helped me find a whole new level of vitality. I feel more clear, energized, peaceful, and connected with my purpose than I did 15 years ago.

Our body is not designed to support the intense demands we place on it in this fast-paced modern life. There is no shortage of stressed-out women needing restorative health in this realm, but this process is inherently an individualized and personal journey. There is no algorithm for this kind of healing. Conventionally, the solutions women are offered are a one-size-fits-all approach, silencing the body’s cry for help, causing frustrating side effects, and most importantly denying the body what it really needs.

We need a personalized approach that can restore vitality and help change the beliefs and patterns that got us there in the first place.

Most women I talk to have tried all the typical suppressive approaches (ex. birth control pills for cramps, Xanax for anxiety, Prilosec for heartburn) and were deeply disappointed with the results. They also know deep down that these “solutions” aren’t fixing anything, and wonder if they may actually make the problem worse. They feel all this uncertainty in their bones, and it makes them restless and discouraged about ever reconnecting with their vitality. These medications have their place, but ultimately they assume your body is somehow spontaneously malfunctioning or just broken. What I wish for them to know, first and foremost, is that they are NOT broken. The conventional system of medicine itself is not focused on restoring health, but instead on controlling chronic symptoms. That system of medicine is itself broken, and out of alignment with the forces of nature.

Symptoms are the body’s language, communicating that there is an unmet need. Until we know what our deeper needs are, we can’t move beyond the suppressive, band-aid approaches.

How we see ourselves in the world and how we connect to something bigger than ourselves fundamentally determines how we operate in life. Our body diligently responds to the demands we place on it and the beliefs we filter our experiences through. If life constantly feels overwhelming and stressful, your inner biology will respond with heightened cortisol levels, making you hold onto more of the calories you eat, struggle to get to sleep at night, slow down digestion and elimination, reduce progesterone levels, and squash your libido. Simply exercising harder, starving yourself more, upping melatonin, and depending on Mirilax won’t solve the core issue (and may make your problems worse over time).

What I have found to be true for so many of them is that it’s not really just the physical body that needs healing. Like many women, I too took the path of attempting to address just the physical body. Over time, I have learned to greatly expand my understanding of my own needs, addressing the way I operate and the beliefs really needed healing in order for my physical body to stay vital. I had to learn how to tap into peace within my body (despite potentially stressful circumstances), and my biology now reflects this.

The larger truth is that you are loved and you are held, and you are responsible for learning to live this truth in your biology to create the inner environment that allows health to flourish. My unique skill set as a coach with a doctorate in natural medicine (who has a deep knowledge of the physiologic systems of the body) can help you get really clear on how your beliefs are showing up in your body, and offer natural ways to move through and shift these patterns.

A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO HEALING NEEDS TO INCLUDE SPIRITUAL COACHING

Sustainable healing really comes through addressing the mental, emotional, and spiritual drains in our life (alongside the physical ones). There is a way to do life, even for the busiest people. It’s not just possible – it’s necessary. The stressors of modern life are really hard on the body, and the effects compound with age.

Your hormones are a reflection of what’s going on inside your mental and emotional world, which are directly impacted by your personal spiritual beliefs. Suppressing your body’s message is often inappropriate because your body is wise, and not broken. We need to learn to listen to give it what it needs. Yes, there are other influencers on your hormones (genetics, environment, etc.) but the general setpoints for how to function are directly impacted by the way you live your life, which is guided by what you believe.

We have developed a cultural adversarial relationship with the body, and it’s time we turn that around. Our health depends on it.

Deep listening and trust with your body are essential. I love helping women shift that relationship with their body into a loving one so that they can learn to really deeply listen and honor their body.

THIS is spiritual coaching – an empowering form of medicine, shifting you from a passive recipient in the health system and putting you in the driver’s seat of your healing process and personal expansion.
